Throughout their 4 years at Hicksville High School, Anaya and Joe demonstrated a strong commitment to serving others, just as Tommy O did throughout his lifetime. This is the seventh consecutive year that Holy Family CYO teams have partnered with teams from St. Ignatius CYO, Hicksville Public Schools, OLM CYO, Hicksville American Soccer Club, Lutheran High School as well as individual sponsors to support the Lexiebean Foundation's Lexie's Elves program.
Recently I dropped off $5000 worth of gift cards to Melissa Eichele of the Lexiebean Foundation. 49 gift cards will be given to families with sick children. One will be given to Josiah's family. Josiah is a nine year old boy who recently passed away from anaplastic astrocytoma.
Thank you all for your kindness and for making a difference in the lives of sick children. As you know Christmas can be an extremely difficult time for families with sick children, as the ability to buy Christmas gifts is hampered by the need to pay medical expenses. Your kindness will bring happiness not only to the sick children but to their parents who desperately want their kids to know the joy of opening presents on Christmas Day.
I hope that the joy you bring to these sick children and their parents is returned to you ten fold.
Thank you to the Falabellas and the Eicheles for all the amazing things the Lexiebean Foundation does all year long for sick children and their families and for allowing us to be a small part of that effort.

On May 31 and June 1 2019, Holy Family CYO members and alums were joined by Hicksville School District students, alums and staff (and others) at the Nassau County Victory Challenge. The Games for the Physically Challenged provided us with an opportunity to assist some truly amazing athletes, whose performance can only be described as courageous, determined and inspirational.
Thank you to both the volunteers and the athletes for making this event so memorable.

 

Holy Family CYO congratulates it's 2019 ROLE MODELS KHAREEM and STEPHANIE TAYLOR

Khareem and Stephanie are long time members of our Parish CYO Board.  They have also volunteered their time and talents Coaching CYO Travel and Instructional Basketball as well as Track.  Outside of CYO, Khareem has volunteered his time coaching the Holy Family Middle School basketball team and created a low cost alternative AAU Basketball program focusing on the sport and all the benefits that come with playing a sport rather than profits.  

It seems hardly a day goes by when the Taylors are not coaching one sport or another or coordinating behind the scenes to make things happen for the children of our Parish.  It is not uncommon to see the entire Taylor family (Mom and Dad as well as their three children Kaden, Kameron and the newest and cutest addition to the family Kaitlyn) at each of these sporting events.  

The Taylors are also first in line to help out at any of our annual fund raisers and charitable events including raising money for kids with cancer or assisting at the Games for the Physically Challenged. The entire family is a true example of sacrifice and volunteerism. 

We thank you both for all you have done and continue to do and for setting such a good example to the adults and children of our Parish.

Holy Family CYO was privileged to help out on June 2 2018 at the Games for the Physically Challenged at Mitchell Field. ESPN may have the greatest athletes but these games have the most courageous athletes!!!
Tim (orange shirt on the right in the group picture) provided us with one of the greatest examples human will, spirit and endurance as he labored for almost 20 agonizing minutes to finish a 200 meter race. His performance was beyond inspirational!!!

Holy Family CYO Congratulates this year’s ROLE MODEL, PETER GENTILINI

 

Every so often a Parish is fortunate enough to have someone who has all the right qualities step up and take charge.And if that Parish is really lucky, that person will do so again and again. Holy Family is blessed to have such a person in Peter Gentilini.
Pete has used his extraordinary talents to coach multiple CYO Sports including Basketball and Track.He has also lent his outstanding administrative skills to our program by volunteering his time as a Board Member and Treasurer.He has helped coached HBA Baseball, and led our Cub and Boy Scouts troops. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.Because of people like Pete who are willing to share their time and amazing talents with other, our children's childhoods and our memories as parents of those childhoods are so much richer. From the bottom of our heart we thank you Pete for all you have done and continue to do for us, our children and our Parish.
You are a true role model.

It’s a FOUR-PEAT! Girls Tyro Volleyball "A" Division Win FOURTH Nassau/Suffolk Championship in a row!

Congratulations to all the girls of the Tyro “A” Division volleyball team for winning their FOURTH straight Nassau/Suffolk Championship! The girls defeated a very tough team from St. Francis by winning two of the three games in the championship match. It’s not easy to win a championship, but to do it four times in a row in the “A” division is quite a feat. These girls are really something special and Holy Family is very proud of them.   

Holy Family CYO congratulates  its 2017 ROLE MODEL, DEBBIE MIGLIANO.  Debbie has served as our Volleyball Coordinator for serveral years and has coached several teams to Championship titles.  Without volunteers like Debbie, we would not have a successful and virant CYO program here at at Holy Family and for that we are grateful.

Thanks to all those who got their cars washed or made donations. Special thanks to the Michael Magro Foundation, Friends of Kenny Warren Foundation, J.E.T.S. Organization, Joey Lup Foundation, Mary Jane Casillo Foundation and the FOP for your generous donations. 
Because of your kindness, generosity and superior car washing skills we were able to raise almost  $13000 for the family of a little boy battling cancer.

Congratulations to Coach Bob and the entire Holy Family 5^th Grade Boy’s Basketball team for an incredible season.  The team was UNDEFEATED  (12-0) in their regular season and went undefeated in the first 4 rounds of the playoffs.  Their incredible season finally came to an end on 3/26/17 when they played their 5^th and final playoff game against a very tough Corpus Christi team where they lost by one basket (22-20). Despite the loss, these boys are true champions.

Lexiebean Foundation's Lexie's Elves Program

For the fourth consecutive Christmas Holy Family CYO has participated in the Lexiebean Foundation's Lexie's Elves program. Every Holy Family CYO basketball team as well as the CYO swim team, along with teams from St. Ignatius CYO and Hicksville High School were each assigned a child who is battling cancer to purchase presents from the child's Christmas wish list. The presents were turned over to the Lexiebean Foundation for distribution to the children. Our CYO board would like to thank all of the participants for bringing Christmas joy to sick children and their siblings. We would also like to thank the Lexiebean Foundation for this opportunity and for all the great work they do on behalf of sick children throughout the year.
 

Empire State Games  for the Physically Challenged

On June 4, 2016, Holy Family CYO sent 28 volunteers to the Empire State Games  for the Physically Challenged at Mitchell Field in Uniondale. At the games the volunteers assisted young athletes whose physical challenges include amputee, blind or visually impaired, cerebral palsy, deaf, and spinal cord injured to compete in a variety of competitive sports adapted to suit their unique abilities.

CYO is honored to have assisted at these games for 14 consecutive years.

 

8th Grade Girls Volleyball "A" Division Win THIRD 

Nassau/Suffolk Championship in a row

with their SECOND UNDEFEATED season.

Congratulations to Coach Debbie Migliano and the entire 8th Grade “A” Division girl’s volleyball team for winning theirTHIRD straight Nassau/Suffolk Championship! The girls defeated St. Williams in their final match held at MolloyCollege.  For the second year in a row, the girls were UNDEFEATED winning 30 regular season games and swept the playoffs with a perfect 6 and 0 record. All together over the course of two seasons they won an incredible 72 games in a row!

Today I saw many reasons to believe in the goodness of people. I 
witnessed an entire community rally around a young boy courageously battling both leukemia and a virulent fungal infection. Neither the cold nor blustery wind could deter an army of young people (and some parents) from showing their love and support for Alex Wallace by washing an endless stream of cars and SUVs as well as several HFD fire trucks.
Today's highlight occurred when Alex and his family showed up to thank the volunteers. I believe the presence of so many community members helped to raise Alex's spirits but getting to witness Alex's courage and tenacity up close was truly inspiring for all of us.
Thank you to Fr. Gerard for allowing us to use the parish parking lot and Fr. Derick for leading the volunteers in a prayer for Alex. Thank you to the CYO board and coaches for your support. Thank you to the volunteers, the Hicksville Fire Department, those who got their cars washed and to all those who donated. Thank you to those who bought coffee, donuts, pizza etc in order to keep the volunteers' energy level high.
A very special thank you to the Michael Magro Foundation, the Lexiebean Foundation, the Friends of Kenny Warren foundation, Joining Everyone Together to Share (J.E.T.S) organization, the Sarah Grace Foundation and the John Thiessen Foundation -for your generous donations and for all the good work you do throughout the year for families with children with cancer.
Together we were able to raise nearly $14000 (plus additional pledged donations not yet received) but more importantly we sent a message to the Wallace family that they are not alone in this struggle.
All of you are the reasons why I believe in the goodness of people!

Role Model Jack McCarthy

Holy Family CYO congratulates this year's ROLE MODEL Honoree, JACK McCARTHY.  Jack was honored this year for his many years of service and hard work to our Parish and CYO program.  Jack has coached numerous sports teams in the past and currently serves as one of our Board Members.   As our Facilities' Coordinator, Jack ensures that games in our gym are properly scheduled and secures permits for us at other facilities throughout the area.  He is the man behind the scenes that allows us as parents, coaches and players to just show up at a game or practice knowing that there will be a place to play. That doesn't just happen by magic,  It's the result of a dedicated man who has volunteered his time and talents for years and who unselfishly continues to do so even though his daughter has long since outgrown any program we offer.  He is the true definition of a "Role Model" and Holy Family CYO is grateful to him for his service.

Nikki DeGennaro is an alumna of Holy Family CYO. She played travel basketball from 5th grade through 12th grade. I was privileged to coach Nikki for 7 of those seasons. Nikki was an extremely tough competitor and the heart and soul of a team that won 2 Long Island Championships in the "A" division. Her last CYO season was 2008.

Nikki is not only a champion but she is also a hero--a St. Jude's Hero. Later this year Nikki will be participating in the NYC marathon to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Nikki is new to marathons but she is a veteran when it comes to helping those less fortunate. Throughout her CYO career Nikki was very involved in community service activities and she continued this practice throughout her college career. Nikki is now a teacher in NYC and has recently conducted successful online fundraising campaigns to purchase a computer and other teaching supplies for her students.

Nikki is willing to do the hard part--run 26 miles. We have the easy part--supporting Nikki's fundraising effort. Please consider making a donation by clicking on the link below. Please help Nikki help families with children battling pediatric illnesses.

Although Nikki has never run a marathon I am confident that she will do well for she has a really big heart, which has got to help with the cardio!!!

Feeding and Clothing the Homeless
 

Early on the morning of December 5 ten 9th and 10th graders, all Holy Family CYO alums, rose before the sun and travelled to NYC to bring some love and caring to a large group of homeless people. There they joined members of Holy Family's Michael's Angels organization and served a hot breakfast to approximately 90 individuals. Not only did they feed the homeless but they also distributed socks, underwear, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, coats, shoes , blankets etc. For the participants it was a very powerful and enriching experience--especially since it occurred during the "giving season".
We were reminded that "whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren that you do unto Me".

Adopt a Child with Cancer for Christmas--December 2016

For the third  consecutive year, Holy Family CYO is participating in the 
Adopt a Child with Cancer for Christmas program, sponsored by the 
Lexiebean Foundation. All 5 of Holy Family's boy's basketball teams as well as our swim team are participating. They are being joined by a St. Ignatius' volleyball team, a group of HF CYO alums and the HHS gymnastics team and girls JV basketball team. Together these teams purchased over $1100 worth of toys, games, clothing, gift cards etc. for kids with cancer and their siblings. These gifts will be distributed by the Lexiebean Foundation to children at several local hospitals. 
Our purpose in participating in this program is not just to bring joy to sick children but to help the children of our program learn that it is in giving that we receive. What better way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas?

2015 Nassau County Empire State Games

On May 30, 2015, 25 current and former members of Holy Family CYO volunteered at the Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged. These games are held annually at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale and provide an opportunity for physically challenged youth to compete in a variety of sports and recreational activities, adapted to suit their unique needs.

This was the 13th consecutive year that Holy Family CYO members and alumni have assisted at the games.

 

7th Grade Girls Volleyball "A" Division Win SECOND 

Nassau/Suffolk Championship in a row!

Great finish to UNDEFEATED season.

Congratulations to the 7th Grade "A" Division girls volleyball team for winning their SECOND Nassau/Suffolk Championship in a row.  The final game, played at Holy Family was a perfect ending to a perfect season-literally.  The girls were UNDEFEATED all season long with an unbelievable 30 wins and no losses in the regular season. They also swept the playoffs with a perfect 6 and 0 record for a total of 36 straight wins and no losses.  Congratulations also to Coaches Keith Burt and Debbie Migliano for their hard work and dedication all season long.
 

Holy Family CYO Car Wash For Robbie

 

Yesterday was a day of sunshine, smiling faces and incredible 
generosity. Scores of kids from our Holy Family CYO program squirted 
hoses at one another, put soap suds on each other, ate pizza and bagels 
and also managed to wash a seemingly endless stream of cars. These 
kids proved that community service can be fun and rewarding. By the time 
the last soap bubble had burst these boys and girls had helped to raise 
nearly $6500 (including donations) for a little boy named Robbie and his 
mom. Robbie is 7 years old and is bravely battling cancer.
Thank you to our young car washers and also to the adults who  assisted 
at the car wash. Thank you to the foundations that made generous 
donations. Thank you to everyone who allowed us to wash their cars and 
also to all those who pulled up in the car wash lane and handed us cash 
without getting their car washed. Thank you to those who could not 
attend but made donations. Thank you to the shopkeepers who allowed our flyers to be posted in their stores. Thank you to the Hicksville Fire 
Dept for giving the kids the thrill of climbing on a fire truck in an 
attempt to wash it. Thank you to the moms who provided pizza for the 
hungry hordes. Thank you to Fr. Gerard for his support and for allowing 
us to use HFS for this endeavor.
Finally, thank you to a very brave little boy and his mom, who gave us 
the opportunity to demonstrate why Holy Family CYO is so much more than just a sports organization.
Please continue to keep Robbie and his mom in your prayers.

Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged

Every year in May, over 1,100 children gather at Mitchel Athletic 
Complex in Uniondale where physically challenged youth are given the exciting opportunity to participate in competitive sports and recreational activities adapted to best suit their unique abilities.
Athletes, whose physical challenges include amputee, blind or visually impaired, cerebral palsy, deaf or hearing impaired and spinal cord injured, from across New York State travel to Nassau County for a weekend of fun, friends, and reaching the finish line!
This will be the 13th consecutive year in which members/alumni of Holy Family CYO serve as volunteers to assist these athletes. If you or your child is interested in volunteering please let me know asap. Each organization is limited to 25 volunteers and usually the number of volunteers from our organization exceeds the limit.
The games will be held on May 28-May 30 at Mitchell Athletic Complex. Our volunteers will serve on Saturday May 30 from 9am to around 1pm. We will meet at Holy Family School at 8:30am and carpool to the games.

Holy Family CYO Serves Breakfast to Homeless in NYC (02/08/15)

On February 8, 2015, Holy Family CYO’s 8th grade boys basketball team, rose before sunrise to journey to NYC to serve breakfast to the homeless. In addition to serving food to approximately 50 men and women the boys also distributed hats, scarves, gloves, thermals and hundreds of pairs of socks and underwear, most of which was donated by members of this parish.
This mission had many memorable moments but one stands out. A homeless gentleman arrived late and after all of the food had been distributed. Another homeless gentleman walked over to him, reached into his pocket and handed him the 2 hardboiled eggs he had received minutes earlier. What a beautiful and powerful message for those of us who witnessed this incredible act of kindness.
The team would like to thank Penny McNicholas, coordinator of Holy Family’s Michael’s Angels organization, for providing us this opportunity to serve. The team would also like to thank the many people who donated food, clothing and cash. Thanks also to the men and women who allowed us to serve them, and in doing so, enabled us to enrich ourselves.

Holy Family CYO Contributes to The Lexiebean Foundation for the 2nd Consecutive year (12/14/14)

For the second consecutive year, Holy Family CYO participated in the 
Adopt a Child with Cancer for Christmas program, sponsored by the 
Lexiebean Foundation. Our CYO teams, as well as teams from Hicksville 
High School and individual sponsors, purchased $1400 worth of toys and 
gift cards, for children with cancer and their siblings. These gifts 
will be distributed by the Lexiebean Foundation at Cohen's Children's 
Hospital. Much of the money used to purchase the gifts was raised by the 
children of our program, using allowance money, money garnered from 
redeeming empty bottles and cans or birthday money.
The goal of this endeavor is not only to bring joy to sick children and 
their families but to teach the kids of our program that they there is 
real Christmas joy in giving.
Holy Family CYO would like to thank all of the participants and wish 
each of them the peace, joy and love of Christmas.

Holy Family Volleyball 6th Grade Girls Win Championship (5/13/14)

Congratulations to our 6th grade volleyball team for winning the Nassau Suffolk championship.  Coached by Keith Burt,  the girls won the 6th Grade A championship by defeating St William is a very close match at Holy Trinity High School.  This is Coach Keith's 12th Championship with Holy Family!


 

Thank You (5/5/14)

Holy Family CYO would like to thank everyone who contributed to their car wash fundraiser for Dale, a 13 year old boy battling Ewing’s Sarcoma. Special thanks to the 45 current and former CYO members who braved cool temperatures and strong winds to wash cars. Thanks also to those who supported the fundraiser by having their car washed or by making a donation. We are extremely grateful to the Michael Magro Foundation, Sarah Grace Foundation, John Thiessen Children’s Foundation, Friends of Kenny Warren Foundation and the Lexiebean Foundation for their support. Together we raised over $4000 for a family struggling in so many ways, including financially. Hopefully we have been able to bring a little sunshine to this family and make their burden just a little lighter.
 

 

Holy Family CYO Car Wash Scheduled for May 4 (4/13/14)

On Sunday, May 4 (rain date May 18) Holy Family CYO will host its 7th annual Car Wash for Cancer from 8:30am to 1:30pm at Holy Family School. Proceeds will be donated to the family of a very brave 13 year old boy battling cancer. The boy’s name is Dale and a little more than a year ago he was playing little league baseball and CYO basketball, just like many kids in our program, when his life was suddenly and dramatically changed. In March 2013, Dale was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma of the chest wall. Since his diagnosis, Dale has undergone 28 cycles of chemotherapy and had surgery to remove 4 ribs. Fortunately, the results have been positive but the family is faced with a mountain of medical bills. Our car wash can help this family not just financially but also emotionally by showing them that they are not alone in this battle. Donations are also welcome. We are taking orders once again for Track Sweathsirt. These sweatshirts are NOT required but have been very popular in the past for those early season, chilly morning meets and evening practices. To the right is a photograph of Jessica (7th grade facing forward) wearing an adult small and Julia (3rd grade with back to camera) wearing a children’s large. The price this year is $35.00. If you would like to purchase one, please mail a check payable to “Holy Family CYO” to me at 4 Jefferson Avenue, Hicksville, NY 11801. (*) There is no extra charge to embroider your child’s name on the front. You do not need to embroider a name if you do not want to. I will be taking orders until March 31, 2014. Each year, many parents ask me for the sweatshirts once the season begins when they see the other children wearing them and by then it is too late so please make your decision early.

Holy Family CYO Contributes to The Lexiebean Foundation (12/20/13)

Holy Family received the following update from the Elves at The Lexiebean Foundation:

 

Hello Lexie's Elves! Last night we finished packing up all the wonderful and generous gifts you purchased and today they are being picked up by UPS and shipped to the families. With your help, we were able to adopt 19 families of children with cancer, providing a Merry Christmas morning to all of these children and their siblings. When Tanner was sick, there was little time for shopping for Christmas presents. There was also very little money for them, since I was not working while taking care of Tanner, and Andrew took many days off to spend time with him. As parents, the only thing we ever wanted for our children was for them to be healthy and happy. We couldn't control his health, but when you can't control being able to put a smile on his face on Christmas morning... you really feel despair. I want you all to know, from personal experience, that you have not only put a smile on the children's faces, but you have lifted that burden from their parents... one less thing for them to worry about. You have helped give that family a sense of "normal" this holiday season. You should know how very special that is. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for helping The Lexiebean Foundation, and thank you for helping children with cancer. May you all have a very happy holiday season, and a very happy healthy new year.

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship (12/7/13)

The Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council will be having their annual Free Throw Championship competition on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 in the Holy Family School gym.  Boys and girls, ages 10 through 14 are eligible to participate.  A copy of the your child's birth certificate is required to accompany the registraion form.  Registration starts at 12:30pm. Instructional Basketball Schedule Announced (11/22/13)

2013 Tommy O Scholarship Recipients Announced (6/4/13)
 
The recipients of the 2013 Tommy O scholarship are Casey Lang and Caitlin Wynne.  The Tommy O Scholarship recognizes high school seniors who are current or former Holy Family CYO participants and have demonstrated outstanding community service during their high school career.  Congratulations to these young ladies!

Annual Tommy O Memorial 5K Run, Walk Scheduled for June 15 (5/23/13)

 

On Saturday June 15, 2013, the FDNY is sponsoring the fifth annual Tommy O Memorial 5k run/ walk. This event honors the memory of Tommy Orlando, a NYC firefighter, who died tragically on December 4, 2008. Tommy was a community activist and very involved in youth sports in Hicksville. He was a Holy Family CYO coach and board member. The race will be held at Wantagh Park, rain or shine. On site registration begins at 10 am and the race will start at 10:30 am. The fee is $30 for adults and $10 for children 16 and under. Please make checks payable to Engine 65 and in the memo line show Tommy O. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Holy Family CYO Tommy O Memorial Scholarship fund. Holy Family CYO awards two $1000 scholarships annually to high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to community service throughout their high school careers. All race participants will receive a tee shirt. Refreshments will be served following the race. On Friday, April 26, Nassau Suffolk CYO programs across Long Island recognized individuals for their outstanding and selfless work they do with and for the children of their respective communities.  This year Holy Family recognized long-time volleyball coaches Keith Burt and Mike Brewer as our 2013 CYO Role Models.
 

Car Wash for Austin (3/28/13)

 

Two year old Austin was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma (abdominal tumor) on July 20, 2012. In mid March 2013, he underwent a stem cell transplant. It is too soon to determine the effectiveness of the transplant but in any event Austin has a long road to recovery. Only one of Austin’s parents is able to work while Austin is being treated and medical expenses continue to climb. Holy Family CYO and St. Ignatius CYO are fundraising on behalf of Austin and his family. On May 5, 2013, CYO will do a car wash at Holy Family School from 830am to 130pm. The rain date is May 19. We are also accepting donations. Checks should be made payable to Austin Spencer and mailed to Ed Hebron 2 Mitchell Ct. Hicksville NY 11801. Community Service Opportunities (3/28/13)

 

"Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." Here are a couple of opportunities to bring sunshine to others: On Sunday, May 5 (raindate May 19) Holy Family CYO will sponsor its 6th annual car wash for charity. As we have done the past 2 years we will donate the proceeds from the car wash to a needy family with a child who is afflicted with cancer. I have asked the Lexiebean Foundation to identify a family that could use our help. I will provide more details re the family when I get them. Last year we raised over $8000 which represents a lot of washed cars. it also means that if we are to be nearly as successful this year we need lots of volunteers. The car wash will take place at Holy Family School from 8:30am - 1:30pm. Volunteers do not have to be there for the entire period. If you/ your child can help out for even a half hour that would be great. On Saturday, June 1 we will once again help out at the Nassau County Games for the Physically Challenged. This will be our 12th consecutive year assisting at this event. The games are for children with serious physical impairments and will take place at Mitchell Field. We will meet at HF at 8am and carpool to the games. Last year the games ended around noon. This is an incredibly powerful and moving experience and I guarantee you will take away more than you give. 8th Grade Boys Win Championship! (3/24/13)

 

Holy Family's 8th grade boys team has won the Long Island "B" Division Championship. Clutch free throw shooting propelled the boys to a thrilling come from behind victory. Next up is a matchup with the champs of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Congrats to Coaches Stewart and McMullan and their team!

 

7th Grade Boys Win CYO Sportmanships Award (3/19/13)

 

Congratulations to Dave Dwyer and the our 7th grade boys basketball team for being awarded the Nassau Suffolk CYO Sportsmanship Award for their respective divisions.

The Sportsmanship Award is chosen by the opposing coaches in each team's division. This award is highly regarded by CYO and Holy Family is very proud of the team for being chosen as this years recipients. The boys will be presented with their medals on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 pm at Chaminade High School.
 

8th Grade Boys Reach Championship! (3/18/13)

 

Holy Family CYO's 8th grade boys basketball team coached by Brian Stewart defeated St Dominics on Saurday night to reach the Nassau / Suffolk Championship.  The Eagles take on the winner of the St Pius / Good Shephard semi-final on Saturday, March 23 at 2:30pm on the Northsport Athletic Facility in Northport.  Let's Go Eagles!!!

 

Instructional Basketball Rescheduled (3/7/2013)

 

Due to a conflict with the Holy Family Religious program, our instructional basketball sessions scheduled for March 9 and March 16 are being rescheduled. The new dates are Saturday, April 6 and Saturday, April 13.  

 

Instructional Volleyball to Start on March 7th (2/22/2013)

Due to the pending snow storm, tomorrow's swim meet (Feb 9) has been postponed. The tentative rescheduled date is Saturday, Feb 23, 3pm at Bethpage HS..

Tommy O Memorial Tournament to Support Hurricane Sandy Victims (11/11/12)

Holy Family CYO is proud to sponsor the 4th annual Tommy O Memorial Christmas Basketball Tournament. Tommy O was a New York City firefighter, who died tragically on December 4, 2008. Tommy was also a community activist and very involved in Hicksville youth sports. He was a long time coach and board member of Holy Family CYO. The tournament will be played from December 8 tthrough the 16th. In prior years all proceeds from the tournament were used for the Tommy O Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be awarded annually to high school seniors, who are alumni of the Holy Family CYO program and who have demonstrated a commitment to community service during their high school careers. Through this scholarship fund, we are endeavoring to keep Tommy’s memory alive, especially in the hearts of the scholarship recipients. Hopefully they will be inspired by stories of Tommy’s selflessness, his acts of heroism on 9/11 and his commitment to his family and community. This year, however, all proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Hurricane Sandy relief agencies or directly to affected families. We know that Tommy O would approve of this. To support this endeavor CYO will be posting sponsor signs throughout the Holy Family School gymnasium. Sponsors may choose to have their sign posted for the tournament only ($100) or for the entire basketball season ($250) which runs from now through March 2013. Sponsors also have the option of having their sign displayed prominently on the scorers table for the entire basketball season ($500). In life Tommy touched so many lives. Your donation or sponsorship will enable him to continue touching lives. Swimming Coach Bill Ferreri Honored with Nancy Donlon Memorial Award (5/25/2012)

On Monday April 2, Holy Family swim coach Bill Ferreri was honored as the recipient of the Nancy Donlon Memorial Award.  Nancy was one of Holy Family’s swim coaches who passed suddenly on September 17, 2010.  Bill worked with the swimmers in all three sessions, including the “challenging” 17U Girls. Bill’s quiet enthusiasm, dedication and friendly demeanor lifter our swimmers’ spirits, helping them to build confidence and maximize their potential.  As Nancy always believed, winning was great, but secondary to the joy and pride the swimmers felt as they improved with each passing week. Bill embodied this sentiment We are all proud of Coach Bill, and honored to have him as an integral part of our team.

Swimming Eagles Crown 15 Champions; Capture 2nd Place at the CYO Championships (5/25/12)

The Swimming Eagles finished off a terrific season by taking 2nd place in the CYO of Nassau & Suffolk Swimming Championships held on March 29, 2012 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Eagles medaled in 34 of 52 events and crowned 15 champions. Visit our swimming page to see the complete list of champions. Holy Family Volleyball Captures 2 Championships (5/17/12)

Congratulations to our Tyro and 7th Grade volleyball teams for winning their respective championships.  Our Tyro team, coached by Keith Burt won their third straight championship by defeating St William in the TYRO A finals.  Our 7th Grade team also coached by Mike Brewer defeated a talented St Willliam team in the 7th grade A championship game.

Holy Family CYO would like to thank everyone who participated in our car wash for baby Bobby.  Dozens of our members and their parents washed cars for 5 hours to support a family in need. Together we raised over $7000 for the Genovese family, whose 2 year old son is battling liver cancer.

Swimming Eagles Head to Championships (3/29/12)

Good luck to all our Swimming Eagles participating in the Nassau Suffolk Championships at the Aquatic Center.  The championships wrap up a successful 2012 swimming season where the Eagles finished with a 5 - 3 record.  Congratutions to Coach Carroll and all our swimmers!

Car Wash for Baby Bobby (3/13/12)

Baby Bobby Genovese was recently diagnosed with stage 3 liver cancer. He is just 2 years old and faces a daunting and uphill battle. He is presently undergoing chemotherapy and will ultimately need a new liver. To win this battle, Bobby and his family will need not only our prayers but our generosity as well. To help defray Bobby’s burgeoning medical expenses, Holy Family CYO will host a car wash at Holy Family School in Hicksville on May 6, 2012 (rain date May 20) from 9am – 1:30pm. All proceeds will be donated to the Genovese family.

Opportunities to Give Back! (3/13/12)

Holy Family CYO prides itself on being much more than a sports organization.  As Isiah Thomas, former NBA star, once stated, "if all I'm remembered for is being a good basketball player, then I've done a bad job with the rest of my life". Some will argue that Isiah did a bad job with the rest of his life but I think you get the point.  We know many of the kids in our program are already involved in myriad community service type activities. However, we are hopeful that their busy schedules will permit them to do a few more.

On May 6 (rain date May 20) we will be hosting our 5th Holy Family CYO annual charity car wash from 9am - 2pm behind Holy Family School. This year we will donate the proceeds to the family of baby Bobby, a 2 year old boy who was recently diagnosed with 3rd stage liver cancer. Last year was our busiest in terms of the # of cars washed but the number of volunteers was down. Hopefully this year we will get even more cars but also more volunteers. if your son or daughter would like to volunteer please let me know. we are also accepting donations.

On June 2 we will be participating in the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged. This event takes place at Mitchell Field from 830am-1pm. This will be our 10th consective year of assisting athletes with severe physical impairments to achieve their sports dreams. Those who have volunteered in the past will attest to the fact that the rewards of participating in this event cannot be adequately captured in words. Volunteers must be 16 years of age but younger participants are welcome to come and cheer.

Also on June 2 the Special Olympics will be hosting a basketball tournament at the PAL center in Hicksville. I believe that the games start at 1pm. We are attempting to get more info and will forward it to you when received.

On June 9th the FDNY will sponsor the 4th annual Tommy O Memorial 5K run/walk at Wantagh Park. This event not only honors Tommy's memory but proceeds from the run help fund the Tommy O Memorial Scholarship.

In September, St. John's University will host the 2nd annual Dribble for a Cure fundraiser, with proceeds going to cancer research. We will post more information when received. If you and/or your child are interested in helping out at these events please contact Ed Hebron at 516 822-5096.

8th Grade Girls Awarded CYO Sportsmanship (2/4/12)

Congratulations to the Holy Family Girls 8th Grade Travel Basketball Team coached by Larry Sackman for being named  CYO Sportsmanship recipients. The team was chosen by opposing coaches to receive the CYO Sportsmanship Award for their Division.

7th Grade Girls Basketball Update (1/30/12)

Our 7th grade Girls went into the first round of the CYONS playoffs against St Isidore, the girls came out on top and moved on to the quarter finals against St Marks in a great game which was tied after regulation and went into overtime the girls unfortunately could not hang on in a game which saw numerous lead changes.  None the less they had an amazing season.  Holy Family CYO would like to congratulate the girls and coaches on a great season. The team was coached by Erin Breen, David Moran and Bobby Urbielewicz who did an outstanding job.

Holy Family Senior Girls 2011 Champions!

Senior Girls Win Nassau / Suffolk Championship (11/13/11)

On Sunday,  November 13, Holy Family Senior Girls team played St Hyacinth on their home court for the CYO Nassau/Suffolk Championship. The Senior Girls coached by Ed Hebron and Tony Matera coming off an undefeated season, had one final game to make the season complete. In what was a close game in the first half, Holy Family came out in the second half of the game and knew what they needed to do to win the game. With both teams giving their all Holy Family came out ahead with the final score 61-48. Congrats to the Girls and Coaches on a great season

Senior Girls Headed to Finals (11/7/11)

On Sunday night our Senior Girls played Sacred Heart in the semi-finals at Holy Family and came away with 60-43 victory.  The girls will now head to the championship game on Sunday, November 13 at 3:30 pm.  Holy Family will play St Hyacinth at St Hyacinth which is located at 319 Cedar Swamp Road, Glen Head.  Come on down and cheer the girls on

Senior Girls Finish Season Undefeated (10/25/11)

Congratulations to Holy Family Girls Senior Team coached by Ed Hebron and Tony Matera. The girls completed their season with a 10-0 record. They will play their first playoff game at Holy Family on Sunday November 6 at 8:15 pm. Come on down and cheer the girls on as they continue their successful road into the playoffs.

Holy Family Recognizes 3 Role Models (5/13/10)

CYO Regionals and Championships Rescheduled (6/24/11)

The CYO track meets that were recently postponed due ro rain have been rescheduled as follows:

• 1st - 3rd Grade Regionals: Monday, June 27th at Michael Tully Park in New Hyde Park at 6:00pm.
• 4th - 8th Grade Championships: Tuesday, June 28th at Michael Tully Park in New Hyde Park at 6:00m.
• 1st - 3rd Grade Championships: Thursday, June 30th at Glen Cove High School at 6:00pm.

Holy Family CYO Volunteers at Empire State Games for Physically Challnged (6/4/11)

On Saturday, June 4th, member of Holy Family CYO volunteered their time at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at Mitchell Athletic Complex.Athletes compete in track, field, slalom, swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis. Participants, ranging in age from 5 to 21, face disabilities of blind, visually impaired, deaf, hearing impaired, spinal cord injured, amputees and those who have cerebral palsy, dwarfism and other physical disabilities.

Third Annual Tommy O 5K Walk/Run Scheduled for June 11 (5/29/11)

On Saturday June 11, 2011, the FDNY is sponsoring the third annual Tommy O Memorial 5k run/ walk.  This event honors the memory of Tommy Orlando, a NYC firefighter, who died tragically on December 4, 2008. Tommy was a community activist and very involved in youth sports in Hicksville. The race will be held at Wantagh Park, rain or shine. On site registration begins at 9 am and the race will start at 10:30 am. The fee is $30 for adults and $10 for children 13 and under. Please make checks payable to Engine 65 and in the memo line show Tommy O. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Holy Family CYO Tommy O Memorial Scholarship fund.  Holy Family CYO awards two $1000 scholarships annually to high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to community service throughout their high school careers. 8th Grade Gold Volleyball Wins CYO Sportsmanship Award (5/29/11)

Congratulations to the our 8th grade Gold team coached by Bill Donlon and Jack McCarthy.

The Sportsmanship Award is chosen by the opposing coaches in each team's division. This award is highly regarded by CYO and Holy Family is very proud of the coaches and playters for being chosen as this season's recipients.

Holy Family Volleyball Captures 2 Championships (5/29/11)

Congratulations to our Tyro and 8th Grade Blue teams for winning their respective championships.  Our Tyro team, coached by Keith Burt won the Tyro A championship by defeating St William is a very close match at Molley College.  Our 8th Grade Blue team also coached by Keith Burt and Mike Brewer completed their second consecutive undefeated season by defeating a tough St Rose team in the 8th grade A championship in two straight games at St Mary's High School.

Holy Family CYO Car Wash (5/10/11)

The annual Holy Family CYO Car Wash is scheduled for tis Sunday, May 22 from 9:00am to 1:00.  All proceeds will be donated to the family of Tanner Eichele, a 3 yeard old boy who recently lost his courageous battle with brain cancer.

Swimming Eagles Capture Sportsmanship Award (5/5/11)

The Swimming Eagles were honored with their 3rd Sportsmanship Award in the last 4 years at the CYO of Nassau and Suffolk Swim Championship Meet on April 7, 2011. The team went 4-4 during the 2011 season, capturing a tie for 4th place in the division and 5th place at the Championship Meet. To be recognized by their opposing coaches with such a distinguished honor in a season with so much success is a tribute not only to the team’s coaches, but also the young men and women who have been selected team captains. Congratulations to our coaches - Senen Vidad, Rob Morrisey, Jeanne Barrett, Pete Anest, Kathleen Soulias, Gary Hoehing, Penny McNicholas, Valerie Girasi, Anne Joyce, Katy Brengel, Marcos Matos and Kim Themistocleous. We also congratulate our team Captains – Kyle Carroll, Brianna Donlon, David Vidad, Kelly Carroll, Michael Themistocleous and Sara Gharnit. Their commitment to the team, their younger teammates, the respect they showed the officials and the sportsmanship displayed to their opposing swimmers and coaches was truly an inspiration. Giuliani Earns Gold – Breaks CYO Record (5/5/11)

12 year old Jessica Giuliani completed an undefeated season in the 50yd butterfly with a record breaking gold medal performance at the CYO of Nassau & Suffolk Championship Meet held on April 7, 2011 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. Jessica finished the race in an amazing 30.59 seconds, breaking the previous record by nearly a full second. Jessica also swam the butterfly leg of the undefeated gold medal winning Girls 12U 100yd Medley Relay as well as the third leg of the silver medal winning 12U Girls 100 yd Freestyle Relay. These accomplishments earned Jessica the Holy Family Swim Team 2010 Eagle Award for Exceptional Performance. She joins 2006 and 2008 winner Kyle Carroll, 2009 winner Erin Hardiman and 2010 winner Eamonn McNicholas as recipients of this prestigious award.

Holy Family CYO Coach Senen Vidad Honored with Inaugural Nancy Donlon Memorial Award (5/5/11)

On Monday April 11, Holy Family swim coach Senen Vidad was honored as the first recipient of the Nancy Donlon Memorial Award. Nancy was one of Holy Family’s swim coaches who passed suddenly on September 17, 2010. The team dedicated the season to her memory, and instituted this award to honor a coach who exemplified Nancy’s dedication and devotion to the team. Senen worked not only with the swimmers in his own children’s age group, but with our youngest and most inexperienced swimmers. What was, at the beginning of the season, an inexperienced age group, became a strength as the season progressed. Senen’s calm demeanor, ever present smile and technical knowhow lifted the spirit of our swimmers and helped them to maximize their potential. Winning was great, but secondary to the joy and pride the swimmers felt as they improved with each passing week. When presented with our selection to receive the award, Holy Family CYO president, and Nancy’s husband, Bill Donlon stated simply “Nancy would be proud of him.” We are all proud of Coach Senen, and honored to have him as an integral part of our team.

8th Grade Boys Win CYO Sportsmanship Award (3/27/11)

Congratulations to our 8th grade gold boys basketball team and coaches John and Bobby Urbieleciwz for winning the CYO Sportmanship Award.  The team was recognized by the coaches of other parishes and officials for outstanding sportmanship during the 2010 -0 2011  season. 

Boy's Basketball Playoff Update (3/9/11)

Two Holy Family boy's basketball teams start their championship quests this weekend at home!  Ed Hebron's undefeated (12-0) 8th grade blue team play Sunday, March 13 at 6:15pm against the winner of the St Joseph / St Christopher game.  Bernie Rolston's 7th grade team who wrapped up the season with a 10-2 record, will play the St Hedwig / St Thomas winner on Sunday at 5:00pm.  Congratulations to Ed, Bernie and all the boys on their great seasons and good luck in the playoffs.  Go Eagles!

5th Grade Boys Win St Rafael Tournament (5/3/11)

Congratulations to coach Dave Dwyer and Holy Family's 5th Grade Blue team for winning St Rafael's Presidents Day Winter Tournament.  The boys were undefeated in all 5 tournament games and beat St Rose 23 - 21 in an exciting championship game. Team members Jack Dwyer, Doug Chase,Justin Antunes,Thomas Fleming,Chris Larocca, Joe Botto, Thomas Roach, Timmy Brengel, Jack Colasanti, and McKeendy Georges all contributed and showed great sportsmanship representing Holy Family.

7th Grade Girls Win CYO Sportsmanship Award (2/17/11)

Congratulations to out 7th grade gold girls basketball team and coach Larry Sackman for winning the CYO Sportmanship Award.  The team was recognized by the coaches of other parishes and officials for outstanding sportmanship during the 2010 -0 2011  season.  The girls received their awards on February 11th at St Anthony's High School.

Swimming Eagles Victorious in First Home Meet of 2011 Season (1/17/11)

The Might Swimming Eagles took home their first victory of 2011 in our home opener against St Agnes on Saturday.  In one of the most exciting meets in a long time, the Eagles won 30 out of 52 events, including 12 of 16 relays. Congratulations to all our swimmers!

Instructional Basketball Update (12/10/10)

Due to scheduling conflicts with the Holy Family School gym, our youth instructional basketball program will start in January.  You will be notified in early January.

Holy Family CYO Announces 2nd Annual Tommy O Memorial Tournament (11/26/10) 

Holy Family CYO is proud to sponsor the second annual Tommy O Memorial Christmas Basketball Tournament.

Tommy O was a New York City firefighter, who died tragically on 12/4/08. Tommy was also a community activist and very involved in Hicksville youth sports. He was a long time coach and board member of Holy Family CYO. The tournament will be played from 12/15/10 to 12/27/10 and all proceeds from the tournament will be used to establish the Tommy O Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be awarded annually to high school seniors, who are alumni of the Holy Family CYO program and who have demonstrated a commitment to community service, during their high school careers. Through this scholarship fund, we are endeavoring to keep Tommy’s memory alive, especially in the hearts of the scholarship recipients. Hopefully they will be inspired by stories of Tommy’s selflessness, his acts of heroism and his commitment to his family and community.

To support this endeavor CYO will be posting sponsor signs throughout the gym. Sponsors may choose to have their sign posted for the tournament only ($100) or for the entire basketball and volleyball seasons ($250). Sponsors also have the option of having their sign displayed prominently on the scorers table for the basketball and volleyball seasons ($500). In life Tommy touched so many lives. A Night for Nancy (11/19/10) 

On Friday, January 21st Holy Family CYO and Hicksville American Soccer Club will host A Night for Nancy.  Nancy Donlon died on September 17, 2010 as a resul of a brain aneurysm watching her daughter's soccer game. In life Nancy gave us the gift of her love and friendship. In death Nancy gave the gift of life via organ donations.  This event will celebrate Nancy's life, love and friendship.

The celebration will take place at the Knights of Columbus in Hicksville from 7pm - 11pm.  There will be live music, raffles and a silent auction.  Tickets are $50 which includes food, beer, wine and soda.  There will also be a cash bar.

Holy Family CYO Holiday Food Drive (11/17/10)

Holy Family CYO's Annual Holiday Food Drive for our Parish Outreach will be held the weekends of 11/27, 12/3 & 12/11.  All teams playing on those dates are asked to bring in non-perishable items.  There will be a large box in the school lobby to drop off donations. If your team is not playing your teams can just stop by and drop off their donations. Thank you in advance for your support of our program and our parish.

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship (11/5/10)

Girls HS Basketball Playoff Update (10/27/10)

Both Holy Family girl's high school basketball teams have reached the playoffs this season.  Our Senior A team coached by Ed Hebron and Tony Matera finished their season at the top of their division with a 9 -1 record.  They start their playoff run on Monday, November 1 at 8:30pm at Holy Family against Our Lady of Grace.

Our Senior B team coached by Mike Lavelle and Bob Gries finished their season at 7 - 3 and open against St Catherine on Thursday, November 11 at 8:30pm at St Catherine school in Franklin Square.

Girls Travel Basketball Clinic (10/15/10)

McQuillan Hits First 3 Pointer (10/4/10)

On Friday, September 17, Holy Family's Senior Gold team played the first game on the newly refurbished Holy Family School gym floor.  After 50 years, Holy Family now has a 3 point line.  About 2 minutes into the first quarter, Holy Family's Cara McQuillan hit the first 3 in Holy Family School gym history!  The Eagles went on to defeat Sacred Heart 57 - 40.  Cara finished the game with a game high 12 points.

Holy Family Mourns the Passing of Nancy Donlon (9/18/10)

Holy Family CYO joins the entire Holy Family and Hicksville community mourning the sudden passing of Nancy Donlon, wife of Holy Family CYO President, Bill Donlon.

Virtus Training Scheduled for September 9th (8/29/10)

There will be a VIRTUS training session on Thursday, September 9th at 7:30 pm in the Holy Family Church. Every employee and volunteer of Holy Family Parish must have a background check performed and attend a VIRTUS session. Holy Family Gym Floor Update (8/22/10)

On Saturday, August 21, Distinct Flooring began the restoration of the Holy Family School gym floor. The floor will be sanded, re-lined and polyurethaned. We also plan to extend the basketball court approximately 18 inches on each side and adding a 3 point line! New lettering and logos will also be included. Holy Family Parish Festival - August 11 - 14 (7/31/10)

This year the Holy Family Festival has selected to run a limited ticket raffle for cash prizes of over $20,000. With the economy being in a downturn, we thought it would be great to provide an opportunity for you to have a shot at a bunch of cash for only a $50 investment! Holy Family CYO Volunteers at Empire State Games (6/10/10)

On Saturday, June 5,  Holy Family CYO athletes assisted at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged. The Games for the Physically Challenged offers competition in a variety of adapted sports, plus fitness for young people with physical challenges. The program is free to athletes and spectators through the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and lovingly supported by the unselfish efforts of loyal volunteers.  Events included Track and Field, Archery, Swimming, Basketball and Table Tennis.  Click here to view photos of the event.  Thanks to Ed Hebron for coordinating the event for Holy Family CYO!

2010 Tommy O Scholarship Recipients Announced (6/5/10)

On Thursday June 3, Holy Family CYO presented the first Tommy O Scholarship award.  The recipients of the 2010 scholarships are Jennifer Rooney and Caroline Urbielewicz.  The Tommy O Scholarship recognizes high school seniors who are current or former Holy Family CYO participants and have demonstrated outstanding community service during their high school career.  Congratulations to Jennifer and Caroline!

A Message from Our Track Coordinator (6/4/10)

I would just like to say thank you to all of you who volunteered at Holy Family’s Track meet this past Saturday at St. Anthony’s. We hosted 15 parishes with approximately 1,000 children, our largest meet ever! As in years past, we received numerous compliments from the coordinators of our guest parishes on how organized and well run the event was. Each year I am so impressed and proud by the number of you who step up and offer to help. There are too many of you to mention by name (plus I’m afraid I might forget to mention one of you) but you know who you are. Volunteering makes the experience so much more enjoyable and builds great memories for you and your children and that is after all why you joined track in the first place. Enjoy the rest of the season and keep participating.  Also, please visit our website to view some AMAZING photos taken at our meet by some of the parents. Holy Family Wins 3 Volleyball Championships! (5/16/10)

Holy Family's 5th, 7th and 8th grade girls won their respective Nassau Suffolk CYO Champships this week.  On Monday night at Holy Trinity,  Mike Lavelle's 5th grade girls beat St Frances in two straight games.  Keith Burt's 7th grade blue team finished their season 36 - 0 by defeating St Rose.  And Mike Brewer's 8th grade girls beat a talented St Aidan's team at St Frances on Thursday night.  Congratulations to all three teams!

3 Volleyball Teams Reach Finals (5/9/10)

Monday, May 10th is the start of CYO Volleyball Championship Week and three Holy Family teams are still alive.  Mike Lavelle's 5th grade team will play on Monday, May 10 at 6:00pm at Holy Trinity High School. Following the 5th grade game, Keith Burt's undefeated 7th Grade Blue team will play St Rose for the 7th grade "A" title at 7:15pm at Holy Trinity.  Mike Brewer's 8th girls will play St Aidans for "A" championship on Thursday, May 13th at 8:00pm at St Frances in Wantagh.

Congratulation to Bill Donlon's 7th grade gold team on a great playoff run. Bill's team lost a very close match to St Rose in the 7th grade "A" semi-finals.  Our Tyro "A" team coached by Sue Williams lost to OLV 2 games to 1 in their opening playoff match.  Congratulations to Sue and the girls on a great season!

Congratulations to all the Holy Family volleyball teams on great seasons.   This season 5 Holy Family teams are heading to the playoffs!

Our 5th grade team coached by Mike Lavelle will open their playoff run hosting St Rose on Saturday, May 1 at 9:00am.  Both 7th grade teams reached the playoffs.  The 7th grade Blue team coached by Keith Burt finished the season undefeated with a 30 - 0 record.  They start the playoffs on Friday, April 30 at 7:15pm at Holy Family against St Killian.  Our 7th grade Gold team coached by Bill Donlon open the playoffs against Our Lady of Victory on Friday, April 30 at 8:15pm at Holy Family.  Mike Brewer's first place 8th grade girls start the playoffs on Wednesday, May 5 at 8:30pm at Holy Family.  The Tyro team coached by Sue Williams open their playoffs run on Sunday, May 2 at 4:45pm at Holy Family against Our Lady of Victory.

Holy Family CYO Car Wash (4/17/2010)

For the past 2 years Holy Family  CYO has sponsored a car wash to raise money for charitable causes. This year we will be doing another car wash but this time charity begins at home--or school to be more precise. Proceeds from this year's car wash will be used to help pay for the refurbishing of the Holy Family School gym floor. The floor will be sanded, lined and polyurethaned. We plan on extending the court approximately 18 inches on each side and adding a 3 point line. The car wash will be held on Sunday, May 16  from 9am-2pm at the school. The rain date is Sunday, May 23.  We are seeking volunteers from 7th grade on up to help wash cars.  Equally important is the need for cars to wash. Yasmeen Gharnit Recognized for 12 Year Eagle Career (4/14/2010)

17 year Yasmeen Gharnit was recognized for her 12 years as a member of the Swimming Eagles at the annual awards ceremony on April 12th. Yasmeen began her career as a 6 year old back in 1998. In 2007, she was selected to Captain the Swimming Eagles, a position she held with distinction. During her time as an Eagle, Yasmeen earned well over 100 ribbons in dual meet competition, with over half of them for First Place finishes. She also represented Holy Family in the CYO championships every year from 2001 through 2010, winning numerous medals.

In addition to her success as a swimmer, Yasmeen was also a mentor and coach to many of our younger swimmers. Without exception, every swimmer aged 12 and under can trace a small portion of their success back to Yasmeen. Her enthusiasm, leadership, sportsmanship and friendship will certainly be missed. We wish her continued success as she graduates from High School and moves on to her college career

Eamonn McNicholas Earns Gold, Breaks CYO Record (4/14/10)

10 year Eamonn McNicholas completed another terrific season by earning his third consecutive gold medal in the 25yd backstroke. In doing so, Eamonn broke an 8 year old CYONS record, by finishing the race in an amazing 17.41 seconds. Eamonn also took home a Silver Medal in the 100 yd Medley Relay and a Bronze Medal in the 100 yd Freestyle Relay.

Rock for Haiti - A Benefit for the People of Haiti (3/8/10)

On Saturday, April 3rd, St Ignatius CYO is sponsoring Rock for Haiti – A Benefit for the People of Haiti at the Knights of Columbus Hall.  6 bands are scheduled to play.  Doors open at 3:00pm and the last band is anticipated to end at 11:00pm.

Any donations of raffle prizes, gift certificates, event tickets, memorabilia, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

Holy Family track coach Amy Palmiero-Winter has been nominated for the 2010 AAU Sullivan Award.  The AAU Sullivan Award honors the outstanding amateur athlete in the USA. Eagles Take 4th at CYO Swimming Championships (3/26/10)

Holy Family's Swimming Eagles participated in the Nassau Suffolk Swimming Championships at the Aquatics in Eisenhower Park on Thursday night.  Out of 52 races, the Eagles earned a top 3 finish in 22 of them, and medaled in 10 of the 16 relays.  Leading the pack were Kyle Carroll, Eamonn McNicholas and JD Sterbens, who each earned a gold, silver and bronze; Kaylin Anest with 3 Silvers, Emily Jonas with 2 silvers and a bronze, and Andrew Purcell with 3 bronze.  The team will wrap up their season with their awards ceremony on Monday April 12th, 7pm at Bethpage Pool.  All welcome to attend!

5th Grade Boys Reach Finals (3/15/10)

Holy Family's 5th grade boy's basketball team coached by Brian Stewart will play St Matthew in the 5th grade championship game on Sunday, March 21 at 1:30pm at St Mary's in Manhasset.  Good luck boys!

Holy Family Boys Basketball Wins 2 CYO Sportmanships Awards (3/11/10)

Congratulations to both 7th grade boys basketballs teams coached by Ed Hebron and John Urbielewicz for being awarded the Nassau Suffolk CYO Sportsmanship Award for their respective divisions.  The Sportsmanship Award is chosen by the opposing coaches in each team's division.

Instructional Volleyball to Start on March 16th (3/9/10)

Our girls instructional volleyball program will begin on Tuesday, March 16th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Holy Family School gym. Check back later in the week for the complete program schedule.

Swimming Eagles Victorious! (3/7/10)

Holy Family's swim team won their first meet this season defeating St Bernards 250 - 180 on Saturday at Bethpage High School.   Congratulation to Coach Carroll and all our swimmers! Read all about it on Coach Carroll's Blog by clicking here.

Virtus Training Scheduled for March 22 (2/26/10)

Holy Family will be holding a VIRTUS Training Session on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 7:30 pm in the Church.   As everyone is aware, VIRTUS is MANDATORY for every volunteer and employee of Holy Family Parish. Also mandatory is a completed background check form and a signed code of conduct form. Both forms are available in the Parish Office.   Anyone needing to attend should call Tara in the Parish Office at 938-3846 Ext. 302 to register.  Thank you for your help in making Holy Family a fully compliant parish.

Boys Basketball Playoff News (2/24/10)

Three Holy Family Boys basketball teams are heading to the playoffs!  Brian Stewart's 5th grade team finished the season with a 9-3 record and face Notre Dame in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, February 27 at 4:00pm at Notre Dame.  Our 6th grade team (10-2) coached by Bernie Rolston open the playoffs against St Frances at home on Friday, March 5 at 7:00.  The 6th grade game will be followed by Joe Ferrone's 8th grade team (10-2) who play Infant Jesus at 8:15.
Congratulations to all three teams and their coaches and good luck in the playoffs.

7th Grade Girls Win OLM Tournament (1/24/10)

Congratulations to our 7th grade girls for winning Our Lady of Mercy's 2010 Catherine McAuley basketball tournament.  Brianna Donlon was named to the All Tournament team and Jen O'Neill won Tournament MVP.  Congratulations to both girls!

Holy Family Wins 3 CYO Sportmanships Awards (1/24/10)

Congratulations to the girls 6th grade team coached by Joe Geary and Artie Traylor, the girls 7th grade Blue team coached by Bill Donlon and the girls 7th grade gold team coached by Jack McCarthy and Bob Gries for being awarded the Nassau Suffolk CYO Sportsmanship Award for their respective divisions.

The Sportsmanship Award is chosen by the opposing coaches in each team's division. This award is highly regarded by CYO and Holy Family is very proud of these three teams for being chosen as this years recipients. The girls will be presented with their medals on Friday, January 29 at 7:30 pm at St Anthony's High School.

Final Track Registration (1/23/10)

Holy Trinity Girls Summer Basketball Camp (1/21/10)

Holy Trinity's girls summer basketball camp is scheduled for July 19 through July 23.  Athletic Director Chris Hardardt has offered a special discount for Holy Family CYO girls.  If  a group of 10 or more girls register, each camper will receive $25 discount.  For more information, click here to download the flyer.

Haiti Relief Efforts   (1/20/10)

It’s hard to watch the videos emanating from Haiti and not be filled with compassion for those who are suffering such pain and grief. One report spoke of Haitian mothers feeding mud pies to their children to help alleviate the hunger pains associated with starvation. “Mud pies” is not the name of a dessert, it is what the name implies—mud! And this was before the earthquake!

Holy Family CYO would like to do something to help. We are asking each member family of our organization to donate $5 toward the relief efforts. Larger and smaller donations are welcome. CYO players and their parents should feel free to solicit donations from neighbors, friends, teammates and classmates. However, since time is of the essence please act now.

If you are in a position to make a donation please make your check payable to Holy Family CYO and show “Haiti” in the memo line. Checks can be given to your coach or mailed to: Holy Family CYO 5 Fordham Ave. Hicksville NY 11801. All monies raised will be donated to Catholic Relief Services.

Holy Family CYO Announces the Tommy O Memorial Scholarship (1/7/10)

Holy Family CYO has created a scholarship fund to honor the memory of Tommy Orlando, who died tragically on December 4, 2008. Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship (1/7/10)
