Track FAQS

When does the Spring Track Season Start?

If you registered already, you will be contacted by your child’s coach in late March or early April of that year.  Practices will start in early April and the first meet (race) will probably be at the end of April or early May.

When are the meets and practices?

The meets are either on Saturdays or Sundays. We travel to various locations throughout Nassau (and sometimes Suffolk) for the meets.  The exact schedule of meets is still unknown but the season traditionally runs from late April to mid June.  A "Schedule of Meets" will be posted on this website but it is important to regularly check the website and/or your child's coach for updates as the schedule is constantly subject to change.  Each session of the meet usually lasts about 3 hours.  The sessions are usually broken up into morning (grades K thru 3) which will typically run from about 9 a.m. to about 12 noon and afternoon (grades 4 thru 8) which typically runs from about 12 noon to about 3 p.m.

Practices are held during the week in the evenings at Holy Trinity High School located on Newbridge Road in Hicksville.  The exact day will be determined by your child’s coach.  We understand you may need to have a better idea of which day practices are held so as not to conflict with other activities so you can contact the coordinator, John Colonna at (516) 302-6219 or johncolonna@yahoo.com to find out who will be coaching your child.  John will be able to put you in touch with the coach who may be able to give you a better idea of which day practices will be held.  Typically however practices are held once a week during the week, at around 6pm.  They last about an hour.   Thursday and Fridays are common days to hold practices.

Will my child run in the meets?

All children get to participate in meets (races).

What can I expect at a track meet?

Track meets can move slowly due to the number of events being offered and the large number of participants.  Parents should expect to spend a few hours in the stands.  Due to that reason we strongly recommend you come prepared.  Bring lunches and snacks, a cooler with ice and plenty of water.  Remember that meets are in all types of weather conditions and most meets do not have covered seating so it also a good idea to have on hand some of following items depending on the weather conditions:  Extra warm and dry clothing, umbrellas, seat pads, blankets, collapsible chairs, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars, still and video cameras, and any other items you deem necessary.  There is normally a concession stand to purchase food and snacks at all meet sites.

How do I sign up?

If you would like to register for our upcoming spring season, locate the "Registration" tab on the left side of this page and follow the directions. It's easy.

How much is it to register?

The Spring Registration fee is $100.00.  Many other parishes charge additional fees for uniforms.  Our fee includes a uniform which consists of a shirt and shorts.

Volunteers?

We love them, we want them, we need them!  Many of our coaches return year after year but as their children graduate, we lose valuable and experienced volunteers.  PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING whether you have experience or not.  As a parent, you attend most practices and meets anyway.  Sitting on the sidelines can get boring.   You may be surprised at how much fun and how rewarding it is to get involved!  Most parents say “I’ll help when I can, but I can’t commit to anything regular”.  Try it for ONE season.   We’re so sure you will enjoy it that we promise that if it’s too much, we won’t guilt you into returning the next season.  Think of how happy you can make your child and the memories you can make!!
